Ronaldo donates almost $8 million to Nepal relief

KATHMANDU, Nepal, May 13 (UPI) — {link:Cristiano Ronaldo: “http://www.upi.com/News_Photos/view/01834b097098c30d748f4ba2d2fdffd2/?ilink=1″,nw, t: “Real Madrid vs Inter Milan soccer game in St. Louis”} doesn’t just have a golden boot, but perhaps a golden heart.

Ronaldo recently matched his No. 7 jersey number by donating €7 million, or $7.8 million, to Save the Children’s earthquake relief efforts in Nepal, {link:according to sofoot.com.: “http://www.sofoot.com/cr7-7-millions-pour-le-nepal-200637.html”,nw, t: “Ronaldo donates to earthquake fund”}

Nepal was hit with a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in April, that claimed more than 8,000 lives.

Ronaldo also urged his massive Facebook and Twitter following to donate toward the effort.

“Help the children affected by #NepalQuake by supporting @SavetheChildren’s relief efforts: http://bit.ly/1DDZ19Y,” Ronaldo wrote.

The Real Madrid superstar and two-time FIFA Ballon d’Or recipient donated $1.7 million to the children in the Gaza strip in 2012, gave money to the tsunami relief efforts in 2004 to Indonesia and has helped pay for medical procedures for several children, according to {link:CBS Sports.: “http://www.cbssports.com/general/eye-on-sports/25182653/cristiano-ronaldo-donates-nearly-8-million-to-nepal-earthquake-relief”,nw, t: “Ronaldo charity”}

Ronaldo, 30, earned $80 million in 2014 in salary and endorsements, {link:according to Forbes: “http://www.forbes.com/profile/cristiano-ronaldo/”,nw, t: “Ronaldo in forbes”}. He was the second highest paid athlete last year, behind {link:Floyd Mayweather: “http://www.upi.com/News_Photos/view/552cdf91ad79e77cc86466ad2673bd70/?ilink=1″,nw, t: “Floyd Mayweather and Manny Paciquiao Welterweight Fight in Las Vegas.”}’s $105 million.
