TORONTO, Sept. 20 (UPI) — Room, the screen adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s bestselling novel about a mother raising her young son in captivity, has won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Directed by Lenny Abrahamson, the movie stars Brie Larson, eight-year-old newcomer Jacob Tremblay, Joan Allen and William H. Macy.
Tom McCarthy’s film Spotlight was the runner-up for the People’s Choice prize for drama and Evgeny Afineevsky’s Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom was honored with the People’s Choice documentary award, Variety said.
Other films that generated Oscar buzz at the festival were Black Mass, Brooklyn, The Danish Girl and Truth.
