BELFAST, Northern Ireland, Dec. 11 (UPI) — Rory McIlroy and girlfriend Erica Stoll are reportedly engaged.
The 26-year-old Northern Irish professional golfer and his love attended The Paddy Wallace Fund for Autism fundraiser Thursday, where Stoll’s new diamond ring was visible on her left hand.
McIlroy sparked engagement rumors last week by posting a photo of the Eiffel Tower from the couple’s Paris vacation on Instagram. He and Stoll were first linked in the spring, and went public with their relationship at the Irish Open in May.
“I have met someone new,” McIlroy told The London Times that month. “I have known her for three years and we are good friends … I am very happy in my love life … The past six or seven months have been really nice. That part of my life is going great.”
News of the couple’s engagement comes just a year-and-a-half after McIlroy called off his wedding to 25-year-old Danish tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki. The golf star said at the time he “wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.”
