LOS ANGELES, Nov. 18 (UPI) — Rose McGowan explained her public rejection of Caitlyn Jenner’s Woman of the Year Award acceptance speech made earlier this month.
The actress and director, 42, took to Twitter Tuesday to add more context to her criticism of Jenner’s quip that the “hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear,” saying her disapproval doesn’t come from a place of discrimination.
“Let me take this moment to point out that I am not nor will I ever be, transphobic,” she began. “The idea is laughable. Disliking something a trans person has said is no different than disliking something a man has said or a woman has said. Being trans doesn’t make one immune from criticism.”
Around the time of Jenner’s speech, McGowan claimed Jenner did not understand “what being a woman is about at all,” according to Us Weekly. She implored the former Olympian to “learn that we have had a VERY different experience than your life of male privilege…Being a woman comes with a lot of baggage. The weight of unequal history.”
McGowan also rejected Jenner’s award, adding, “Woman of the year? Not by a long [expletive] shot.”
In her most recent Twitter post regarding the issue, the former Charmed actress clarified she would be “thrilled” to work alongside Jenner in tackling equal rights. “I just want her to know there is a monumental fight to be had.”
“I guess I can be a little intense sometimes,” she said in a preceding tweet. “Oh well. [Expletive] it.”
