NEW YORK, Aug. 19 (UPI) — Rosie O’Donnell is feeling hopeful about her relationship with daughter Chelsea O’Donnell.

The 54-year-old television personality reflected on how far she and the 18-year-old have come since their widely publicized estrangement while spending time with Chelsea on Thursday.

“Chelsea and me – what a difference a year makes #hopelives,” she captioned a photo of herself and the teenager on Instagram.

O’Donnell and Chelsea, who is adopted, had a falling out in August 2015 after the teen went missing and was discovered at the home of an alleged heroin dealer. Chelsea later went to live with her birth mother.

“I have a daughter who’s in crisis,” O’Donnell told Entertainment Tonight in November. “Any mother or father who’s ever had a child in crisis, they know it’s upsetting until your child is once again safely on the shore and not in [the] rapids.”

“It hasn’t been easy, but we love her very much, and we hope she’s safe and starts to make some better choices,” she added. “When a child turns 18, there’s nothing legally that a parent can do … [so we hope] that she finds her way back home.”

O’Donnell and Chelsea’s relationship appeared to be on the mend when they attended the Fran Drescher Cancer Schmancer Sunset Cabaret Cruise in June. The television personality is also mom to four other children.
