LONDON, Sept. 13 (UPI) — British actor Rowan Atkinson has begun work on Maigret Sets a Trap, one of two standalone, dramatic films featuring fictional, French detective Jules Maigret, ITV announced.
Author Georges Simenon featured Maigret in 75 novels and 28 short stories between 1931 and 1972.
Atkinson will play the sleuth in the 2-hour TV movie Maigret Sets a Trap, which will co-star Fiona Shaw, Aiden McCardle, Shaun Dingwall, Lucy Cohu, Leo Starr, Rufus Wright, Hugh Simon, David Dawson, Colin Mace and Rebecca Night.
It was written by Stewart Harcourt and produced by Jeremy Gwilt.
Set in 1950s Paris, Maigret Sets a Trap has already started filming in Budapest. It will be followed by the sequel Maigret’s Dead Man.
Atkinson, 60, is best known fo his work in the Blackadder and Mr. Bean television comedies, as well as in the films Four Weddings and a Funeral and Love Actually.
