LOS ANGELES, March 24 (UPI) — The Russo brothers have been tapped to direct Avengers: Infinity War.
Joe and Anthony Russo previously helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2013), and will return for Captain America: Civil War for 2016. The siblings will then take on Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Part 2 for 2018 and 2019, respectively, reports Badass Digest.
The Russo brothers will replace Joss Whedon, who directed The Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age of Ultron for a May 1 release. The pair are expected to reteam with Winter Soldier and Civil War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on Infinity War.
Sources told the Hollywood Reporter the two movies will shoot at the same time in 2016. The films may see Fantastic Four characters Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman and Doctor Doom introduced to the Avengers cinematic universe, per the Marvel comics.
Joe and Anthony Russo are known for their work Fox comedy Arrested Development and NBC sitcom Community. Joe Russo also helmed a recent episode of ABC series Agent Carter, which stars Hayley Atwell as Marvel character Peggy Carter.
