SURREY, British Columbia, Oct. 28 (UPI) — Ryan Reynold’s father, James “Jim” Reynolds, died Sunday in a Canadian hospital after years battling Parkinson’s disease. He was 74 years old.
The mourning actor, 39, took to Twitter early Tuesday to share a photo of himself as a child alongside his dad, writing “RIP Pops. James C. Reynolds. 1941-2015.” He added a link, encouraging followers to donate to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in honor of his late family member.
The late patriarch is survived by his wife, Tammy Reynolds, and his four sons, including Ryan. He also was grandfather to six grandchildren, Ryan’s son with wife Blake Lively’s, 10-month-old James, named after his grandfather.
“Despite heath challenges that could have slowed him down, Jim was a strong and passionate man who lived life to the fullest,” his online obituary reads. “His spirit, stories and memories live on in his sons and grandkids.”
Writing for Time magazine last year, Ryan Reynolds described his father as, “the toughest man alive: a former cop, former boxer and full-time landmine.”
Jim Reynolds was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1995.
