NEW YORK, Sept. 21 (UPI) — Ryan Reynolds recently opened up about daughter James in an interview with GQ.
The 38-year-old Canadian actor discussed the 9-month-old infant with the magazine for the publication’s October issue. Reynolds and wife Blake Lively welcomed James in December 2014, and the star said he believes he’s the father he hoped he would be.
“You know, I like it: I mean that in the heaviest context,” he said of parenthood. “I genuinely like it. I like being a father. I like having a daughter. I would like to have more kids. you know, it seems to suit me pretty well.”
“I’m surprised how patient I am with it,” he added. “I have no problem waking up five times in the middle of the night and changing diapers, and as exhausted as you get, I have this stupid grin on my face all the time. And that’s not because I have a nanny or something like that. It’s just us right now, and I love it.”
Reynolds and Lively met on the set of Green Lantern in 2010, and married in September 2012. The actor revealed life as a celebrity parent has presented unique challenges, including a close friend who attempted to sell photos of baby James.
“It was like a death,” he said of cutting ties with his friend of 25 years over the incident. “It was like one of those devastating things to find out … It was, like, so kind of shocking. There isn’t really a conversation to have. It’s just, ‘Oh, well, now I’m never going to see you or talk to you again, unfortunately.’”
Reynolds is scheduled to star in Marvel film Deadpool and Criminal with Tommy Lee Jones, and will return to voice Guy in The Croods 2. Lively last appeared in The Age of Adaline, and is slated for a new Woody Allen movie with Kristen Stewart.
