Saab supplying UAE with airborne surveillance systems

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Nov. 10 (UPI) — Saab is to deliver a new airborne surveillance system to the United Arab Emirates that incorporates its new version Erieye radar system.

The system ordered by the UAE is the Swing Role Surveillance System, which uses Bombadier’s Global 6000 aircraft as a platform and is capable of simultaneous detection and tracking of multiple air, land, and sea targets.

“The new version of Erieye is without a doubt the most capable airborne early warning and control system on the market,” said Saab President and Chief Executive Officer Hakan Buskhe. “Saab’s capability to develop high technology solutions for customers shows that our focus on research and development is the right way to ensure continued competitiveness on the defense market.”

The order for Saab’s system is worth about $1.27 billion but no information was given as to the number of systems ordered.

Announcement of the order was made at the Dubai Airshow in the UAE.
