LINKOPING, Sweden, Dec. 22 (UPI) — Saab is to upgrade its Torpedo 62 heavyweight system for the Swedish Navy under a contract awarded by the Swedish Defense Material Administration.
Deliveries of the enhanced torpedoes are to occur next year and in 2017.
Saab said the upgrade is part of a Letter of Intent signed by Saab and FMV in 2014 in regard to support for the Swedish military’s underwater capabilities and that the upgrade will include new and enhanced functionalities.
“Saab develops the systems together with its customers in order to meet the challenges that they face,” said Agneta Kammeby, head Saab’s Dynamics Underwater Systems. “We have a very strong relationship with FMV and through this order, we will deliver a modern and powerful torpedo system.”
Details of specific enhancements were not disclosed.
