LOS ANGELES, April 6 (UPI) — Sam Worthington and wife Lara Bingle have named their son Rocket Zot.
The 38-year-old British-born Australian actor and 27-year-old Australian model welcomed the infant in late March. Bingle confirmed her baby’s name Friday on Twitter after Annette Sharp of the Daily Telegraph Australia slammed the choice as “a travesty.”
“My sons middle name IS a respectful nod to my late father, whose nickname was affectionately, Zot,” Bingle wrote. “I wish Australian journalism, and in particular The Daily Telegraph, would rethink employing people who have some respect, and integrity, who either fact check or not comment – rather than just print the juvenile, spurious ramblings of some pseudo journalist called Annette Sharp.”
Sharp declared Worthington “clearly clueless” about “domestically important issues,” and suggested the couple were trying for “a cool name” and failed. The writer erroneously reported the new parents chose “Rocket” after the actor’s father, and called “Zot” a “cruel and unusual” punishment.
Worthington and Bingle have been together since 2013, and married in February 2014. The actor is scheduled for Everest with Keira Knightley and Alive Alone with Noomi Rapace, and will reprise Jake Sully in three forthcoming Avatar sequels.
