SAN DIEGO, Nov. 25 (UPI) — Watching San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen get knocked out for the season was heartbreaking for NFL fans.

The gifted fourth-year pass-catcher was moved to tears in September after tearing his ACL and being carted off of the field. The Week 1 misfortune meant Allen would miss the majority of the NFL season for the second consecutive year.

But on Friday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Allen has plans to “take part in spring camp.” He is currently recovering from reconstructive knee surgery.

“This team can be really amazing,” Allen told the Union-Tribune. “They still are amazing right now. They’re fighting, and staying in the games. If we had everybody, it would definitely be fun to see.”

The Chargers are also playing without Danny Woodhead, one of the best third-down running backs in the NFL, as well as Pro Bowl alternate cornerback Jason Verrett.

Allen, 24, sat out the last eight games of the 2015 season with a lacerated kidney. He has 2,617 yards and 16 scores on 221 career receptions.

“Every time I hit the ground I bounce up like ground balls,” Allen tweeted Friday.

The Chargers [4-6] are in last place in the AFC West.
