Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding perform at Children in Need telethon, which raised $56.5M

LONDON, Nov. 14 (UPI) — Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding, Rod Stewart, Jess Glynne and Peter Andre performed during Friday’s Children in Need telethon, which raised more than $56.5 million, the BBC announced.

The money is to go to disadvantaged children and young people in the United Kingdom.

The program was hosted by Tess Daly, Dermot O’Leary, Fearne Cotton, Rochelle Humes, Nick Grimshaw and Shane Richie.

A highlight of the evening included a Star Wars sketch, which saw R2-D2 and C-3PO joined by Warwick Davis.

“People of the United Kingdom should be feeling incredibly proud of what has been achieved this evening. Their remarkable generosity will go on to help us change a lot of young lives,” David Ramsden, chief executive of BBC Children in Need, said in a statement.

“Thank you to everyone who’s taken part – doing whatever they can for Children in Need. But, most of all, thank you to all our viewers and listeners for every moment of support they’ve shown and every donation they’ve made,” added Tony Hall, BBC’s director general.
