NEW YORK, Oct. 28 (UPI) — Selena Gomez will be honored as Billboard’s Chart Topper at the upcoming Women in Music awards ceremony in December.
Announced Wednesday, Billboard cites Gomez’s career milestones achieved by her new music such as “Good For You,” and album Revival. She follows last year’s winner Iggy Azalea.
“In the last few months, Selena has broken onto the scene as an adult, and come into her own as an artist with the success of Revival,” said co-president and CCO of Guggenheim Media — which owns Billboard — Janice Min. “We want to highlight this moment for a woman who has become a role model for many, a feminist, an independent voice whose new album truly showcases her as a mature artist.”
It had been previously announced that singer and actress Lady Gaga will be honored at the event as Billboard’s Woman of the Year for her work in the entertainment industry, both behind the scenes and in the spotlight. Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard will also be honored as Billboard’s Powerhouse Artist.
Lifetime will televise the 2015 Women in Music event for the first time on Dec. 18.
