NEW YORK, Sept. 9 (UPI) — This year’s tennis match between sisters Venus and Serena Williams attracted a crowd of celebrities to New York’s U.S. Open Tuesday.
Kim Kardashian and sister Kendall Jenner sat among the crowd of spectators at the iconic day 9 match, from which younger sister Serena came out victorious. Also in attendance was television personality Joe Jonas and girlfriend Gigi Hadid, who were pictured remaining close throughout the match.
Presidential hopeful Donald Trump and his wife Melania were also present at Tuesday’s event in the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The GOP front-runner was reportedly booed by tennis fans as he entered the stadium, but remained stoic as he greeted security.
Other celebrities reportedly spotted among the crowd was Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actress Holly Hunter, “Alright” rapper Kendrick Lamar, Oprah, and Modern Romance author and comedian Aziz Ansari.
The match ended with Serena Williams on top, leading her closer to a Grand Slam with just two more victories needed. The younger Williams sister won 6-2, 1-6, and 6-3 over her elder sibling.
“She’s the toughest player I’ve ever played in my life, and the best person I know,” Serena said. “So it’s going against your best friend and at the same time for me going against the greatest competitor in women’s tennis. So it was really difficult today.”
To Serena, the most satisfying part of the match was, “Walking off the court and it being over.”
