Shailene Woodley, Joseph Gordon-Levitt beging filming ‘Snowden’ in DC

WASHINGTON, April 7 (UPI) — Shailene Woodley and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were spotted in Washington D.C. on Monday as they’ve begun shooting the upcoming biopic Snowden.

The film will be filmed on location at the Nation’s capital and feature Gordon-Levitt as the NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, and the Divergent star as his friend Lindsay Mills. The actor were photographed in costume as they strolled around the set by the National Mall.

Directed by Oliver Stone, Snowden will tell the real-life story of CIA employee Edward Snowden, who leaked thousands of classified documents to the press. The film co-stars Nicolas Cage, Zachary Quinto, Melissa Leo and Tom Richardson and is slated for a December release.

Snowden made waves in 2013 when he released documents datailing two NSA surveillance programs authorized by congress as he believed they invaded Americans freedom. He currently resides in Russia where he has been granted political asylum.
