LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16 (UPI) — Shannen Doherty returned to the red carpet Saturday, nearly three months after announcing her cancer diagnosis.
The 44-year-old actress attended the Baby2Baby gala alongside such stars as Kerry Washington and Jessica Biel. The event raised funds for the Los Angeles-based charity, which provides supplies to low-income children from birth to age 12.
The gala marked Doherty’s first public appearance since revealing she’s battling breast cancer in August. The actress is expected to undergo chemotherapy and a mastectomy to treat the disease.
“Such a wonderful evening with inspiring women like @kerrywashington who gave one of the most inspiring speeches and the gorgeous, funny @jessicaalba,” she wrote of the event. “Check out #baby2baby an organization that helps supply necessities for children coming from low-income or no-income families.”
Doherty sued an accounting firm this year for allegedly failing to pay her insurance premiums, which caused her coverage to lapse. The actress discovered she has “invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node” after she re-obtained insurance.
Doherty is best known for playing Brenda Walsh on Fox series Beverly Hills, 90210 and Prue Halliwell on The WB drama Charmed. She is slated for Bukowski with James Franco and How to Make a Deal with the Devil with Matthias Hues.
