NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 8 (UPI) — When an NFL Hall of Fame player speaks, people listen.
Twitter was the stage Sunday for former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe’s latest comment, when he said that the New Orleans “Saints should release B. Browner. He’s not worth the distraction as sub par CB.”
Brandon Browner obviously took issue with the comment. Almost exactly 24 hours after Sharpe’s sharp spiel, Browner responded with “it’s easy to talk with fake teeth.”
Browner also wrote “You shouldn’t throw stones when you live in a glass house.”
Sharpe responded with “just play better football. Enjoy your evening.” Sharpe added that “everyone knows I’m the lip sparring champ, if I get into a battle with @bbrowner27. I’m part of the story. His terrible play gets lost. FACT.”
Browner leads the NFL with 19 penalties. He has been flagged for defensive holding 10 times, facemask three times and defensive pass interference three times.
The Saints have been miserable in the secondary, allowing 287.3 passing yards per game this season, second worst in the NFL.
Browner, 31, singed a three-year, $15 million deal with $7.75 million guaranteed in March. The deal pays Browner $1.1 million this season and $2.75 million each of the next two seasons, including $2.25 million in roster bonuses.
Sharpe, 47, was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection with four first-team All-Pro selections. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011.
Browner has 12 interceptions and 172 tackles in five seasons for the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and Saints.
Pro Football Focus ranked Browner as the NFL’s worst cornerback this season.
