LAS VEGAS, April 20 (UPI) — Simon Pegg revealed that he enlisted the help of Star Trek wiki writers when crafting the screenplay for the next film in the series, Star Trek Beyond.

Speaking with ComingSoon Tuesday during CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Pegg said that it was Star Trek fans themselves who helped to make sure everything in Beyond was exactly as it should be.

“We had the entirety of Star Trek history at our disposal and it’s always there online,” the actor, who also stars in the film as iconic transporter Scotty, said. “”There’s an amazing Wikipedia online called Memory Alpha. It became Doug and my resource and the place that we’d turn to whenever we wanted to know,” he continued referencing co-writer Doug Jung.

Pegg explained that they reached a point in the script when they needed to contact the wiki writers themselves.

“We actually wrote to the Memory Alpha guys and got them to name a certain device in the movie. I sent them a letter saying, ‘Can you come up with this for me?’ In two hours, they came back with an entire etymological history of what the thing was. It’s beautiful. It’s fantastic to have that support network,” he said.

Beyond is the second new Star Trek project approaching release as CBS announced in February their plans to produce a new Star Trek television series set to be executive produced by creator Gene Roddenberry’s son Rod Roddenberry. When asked if Beyond will be affected in anyway by the new series, Pegg responded “Absolutely not!”

Star Trek Beyond which also stars Chris Pine as Cpt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock and Zoe Saldana as Lt. Nyota Uhura, arrives in theaters July 22, 2016. The plot of the film is still a mystery while the first trailer for the film showcased the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise attempting to survive on a new planet after their ship is destroyed.
