WASHINGTON (AP) — Singer Janelle Monae has some advice for people who avoid registering to vote: Don’t treat it like going to the dentist or the DMV.
Monae teamed up with the White House on Tuesday to try to motivate more people to register to vote.
In honor of National Voter Registration Day, Monae joined a White House conference call on the importance of registering.
Monelle says that as an artist, there’s nothing more important to her than her voice.
And she says that in the political process, voting gives people a voice.
Monae says she’ll be promoting voter registration at her concerts and on her website.
The White House says there are 50 million Americans who are eligible to vote who aren’t registered.
