‘Skylanders’ injecting vehicles in next installment

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Skylanders” is pushing the pedal to the metal.

The popular Activision video game franchise that jumpstarted the toys-to-life genre four years ago is adding air, land and sea vehicles into its latest edition. “Skylanders SuperChargers” will feature 20 vehicular toys that can be mimicked on screen similar to how the series’ character figurines came alive in the past four installments.

The action on screen will alternate between “Skylanders” characters battling on foot and in their new rides.

“Skylanders” launched the toys-to-life category in 2011 before Disney’s “Infinity” and Nintendo’s “amiibo” followed suit. Warner Bros. unveiled plans earlier this year to release “Lego Dimensions.” The game-toy line will features Lego vehicles and characters from several different franchises.

“SuperChargers” is scheduled to launch Sept. 20.
