Smashing Pumpkins release ‘Run2Me’ music video

CHICAGO, Oct. 23 (UPI) — The Smashing Pumpkins released a music video for “Run2Me” on Thursday.

Director and longtime collaborator Linda Strawberry told Vulture the video was inspired by the tarot card the Magician, and follows the protagonist as she is “both enlightened and trapped” by “longing” and “fear” in a relationship.

“The Magician is symbolic of transition and inspiration,” she told the website. “While the protagonist in the video is afraid of who she is about to become, she learns, accepts and then lets go of whatever was holding her back.”

“Run2Me” is the fourth single to debut from the Smashing Pumpkins’ ninth studio album, Monuments to an Elegy. The record was released in December 2014, and is the band’s second album in their tarot-inspired project, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.

The Smashing Pumpkins released the video a day ahead of the 20th anniversary of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The two-disc album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1995, and includes the singles “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” and “1979.”
