WAHINGTON, D.C., Nov. 13 (UPI) — The Smithsonian National Museum of American History obtained choice items from the popular television series Breaking Bad Tuesday.
The institute acquired a total of 10 iconic pieces of memorabilia, including Tyvek suits and gas masks from the set, select wardrobe pieces, and props such as cups from fictional restaurant Los Pollos Hermanos. Cast members Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Dean Norris, Jonathan Banks and RJ Mitte reportedly presented the objects to the museum this week,
“These objects and the groundbreaking show they are from help us document the ways in which American entertainment reflects and influences our lives,” John Gray, director of the museum, said in a statement. “In particular, Breaking Bad offers us templates for understanding and confronting social issues.”
The 16-Emmy award-winning series, which ran from 2008 to 2013, followed the story of high school chemistry teacher Walter White (Cranston), who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and turned to drug dealing to support his family.
The pieces, which include a bag of the blue “meth” White cooked up in the series, join those from other integral shows including Mad Men, The Wonder Years, Seinfeld and All in the Family. They are expected to go on view during an American culture exhibition set to open in 2018.
