WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 (UPI) — Metrorail commuters in Washington D.C. met delays and disruptions early Monday as smoke was reported near the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, which suspended service in parts of the rail’s Blue, Orange and Silver lines.
A problem with a power substation at a parking lot at the RFK stadium caused smoke. The delays created significant crowding in some of the capital’s underground railway stations.
On the Silver line, rails were running only between the Wiehle-Reston East station and East Falls Church Metro station, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Commuters were encouraged to transfer lines at East Falls Church to continue their trip.
On the Orange line, service has been suspended between the Eastern Market Station and Minnesota Avenue station. On the Blue line, train service was suspended between Eastern Market and the Benning Road station.
