LONDON, May 13 (UPI) — Three of five Spice Girls members reunited this week, sending fans of the British girl group into a frenzy.
Melanie Brown shared photos with Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell on Instagram, writing, “And I say oohhhh LALA.” The trio enjoyed a “lovely morning” together, albeit without Victoria Beckham and Melanie Chisholm.
The Mirror reported Brown, Bunton and Halliwell recorded new music at Play Deep Studios in London. The Spice Girls’ one-time producer Eliot Kennedy appeared to confirm as much on Twitter.
“Now that was a day for the history books. Like 20 years had never happened. Proper friendship! Hit song!” he wrote. “Two long but ab-fab days with a stonking hit at the end of it! We’ve still got it kids!! #20years.”
The Spice Girls reportedly recorded the track to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Spice, which dropped in September 1996. The group is said to have a new album in the works for release this year.
“To do something for our 20-year anniversary is the ultimate dream,” Brown recently told the Mirror. “If we do anything, we will be writing everything from scratch. We are all group texting and speak a lot.”
“It’s funny, because back in the day people thought we had everything written for us but we’ve always written our own songs,” she added.
The Spice Girls formed in 1994 and last performed together at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Sources told Us Weekly in March the group are planning a reunion tour, but said Beckham isn’t interested in taking part.
