Troon (United Kingdom) (AFP) – Jordan Spieth looks set to just make the cut at the British Open despite a second-round 75 that left him four over par for the championship.

The Texan star shot a level-par opening 71 but had a bad day from start to finish on Friday after a bogey at the first.

After rallying with a birdie at the long fourth, the real struggles began at the short eighth, the iconic Postage Stamp.

There his tee shot found a bunker to the right of the green and it took him two hits to get out as he double-bogeyed.

Spieth then bogeyed the 12th after a wayward drive and recovered a stroke at the short 14th only to bogey again a hole later.

The rain had been off and on for much of the day but it became incessant towards the end of Spieth’s round and combined with howling winds coming in off the Firth of Clyde to make life increasingly tough for the field.

However, that means the cut, which had been projected to stand at three-over when Spieth finished up on 18, is now set to be at four-over, thereby keeping the 2015 Masters and US Open champion in Troon for the weekend.
