Sportscaster Jim Rome apologizes to marching band ‘dorks’

NEW YORK, Jan. 3 (UPI) — CBS Sports Radio commentator Jim Rome apologized to marching band “dorks” across the nation after he felt the backlash of a Twittersphere explosion for his comments.

Rome’s comments on Thursday got a swift and pointed response from members of marching bands across the nation under the hashtag #MarchOnRome.

That moment @jimrome became public enemy #1 of bands across the world. You messed with the wrong dorks. #MarchOnRome pic.twitter.com/Q6BBYD8ios— CollegeMarchingBands (@CollegeMarching) January 2, 2015

Rome, whose syndicated radio show is heard across the nation, said he was “out of line” for the comment and does not condone bullying.

Band nation – I hear you. I was out of line. I apologize. I do not condone bullying of any kind and that was not my intent.— Jim Rome (@jimrome) January 2, 2015

Still, that hasn’t quelled the outrage from marching band members. Many have taken to Twitter and Facebook to let Rome know just how they feel.
