Stanford’s Kevin Hogan aces fake fumble play

PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 2 (UPI) — Quarterback Kevin Hogan wasn’t in Hollywood Friday, but he did pull off a near-Oscar worthy cameo in Stanford’s 45-16 win over Iowa in the Rose Bowl.

Already with a 28-0 second quarter lead, the Cardinal got creative.

Hogan handled the snap, pretended to fumble, looked on the ground with the running back to sell the blunder, then looked up and fired a 31-yard touchdown toss to Michael Rector.

Running back Christian McCaffrey totaled a Rose Bowl record 368 all-purpose yards. Hogan completed 12-of-21 passes for 223 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the victory. Hogan also rushed for 24 yards and a touchdown.
