HOLLYWOOD, July 12 (UPI) — The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce says it will not remove the stars of controversial celebrities Bill Cosby and Donald Trump from the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Entertainer Cosby has been accused by numerous women of sexual assault, however he has never been charged with or convicted of any crimes in relation to the claims.
Real-estate mogul and television personality Trump recently inspired outrage when he made negative comments about illegal immigrants from Mexico.
Leron Gubler, president and chief executive of the chamber, told NBC News he has received requests to remove their stars, but, “The answer is no.”
“Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” he said.
Gubler also quoted the late Johnny Grant, a past, longtime chairman of the chamber’s Walk of Fame Committee, who once said: “Stars are awarded for professional achievement to the world of entertainment and contributions to the community. A celebrity’s politics, philosophy, irrational behavior, outrageous remarks or anything like that have never been cause to remove a Walk of Fame star.”
