State Department releases photo of Kerry in hospital

WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department has released the first photo of Secretary of State John Kerry since he broke his right femur in a bicycle accident in France more than a week ago.

The photo shows Kerry in his room at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He has his right leg propped up and is talking on the phone with national security adviser Susan Rice.

The May 31 accident forced Kerry to cut short a diplomatic trip and return to Boston, where he underwent a four-hour operation last Tuesday.

A State Department spokesman says Kerry “remains in good spirits, is making progress (and) is doing physical therapy in addition to some work on the phone.”
