Troon (United Kingdom) (AFP) – A stunning long putt for birdie at the 15th gave Henrik Stenson a two-shot lead over Phil Mickelson in the final round of the British Open.

It was a second birdie in as many holes for Stenson and an eighth of a remarkable round to take him to 18 under par going to the long 16th hole.

Mickelson had three birdies, an eagle and not a single bogey in his first 15 holes on Sunday but trailed at 16-under for the championship.

Behind the leaders, Steve Stricker of the United States was third on the board at seven-under on the 17th hole, with compatriot JB Holmes at six-under.
