COLUMBIA, S.C., April 20 (UPI) — The Ol’ Ball Coach stood shirtless, sweat soaked and smiling, flanked by {link:State Newspaper reporter Josh Kendall: “http://www.thestate.com/sports/college/university-of-south-carolina/usc-football/josh-kendall-blog/article18769086.html”,nw, t: “Josh Kendall story”}, last week after a grueling workout.

According to Kendall, Spurrier works out six days a week during the season and claims to have worked out five days a week for 25 years.
Wearing his bandana and signature sweater vest, Spurrier goes rep for rep with Kendall. Spurrier does sit-ups, shrugs, sprints, and more and doesn’t miss a beat.
“He does two sets of shoulder presses with barbells,” {link:Kendall wrote: “http://www.thestate.com/sports/college/university-of-south-carolina/usc-football/josh-kendall-blog/article18769086.html”,nw, t: “Kendall on Spurrier”}. “Fifty with 15-pounders and 40 with 10-pounders. He does 200 shoulder shrugs with 30-pound barbells, two long sets of curls, 50 tricep extensions with a 25-pound barbell (I think it was 25 pounds; oxygen depletion may have affected my memory.) There are 100 toe raises with the 30-pound barbells; 22 minutes on the treadmill; 11 minutes on the stationary bike at a not-insignificant incline. At some point, I’m thinking it’s never going to end, although I’m trying to keep a brave face.”
Toward the end of the {link:workout video: “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlotZpA864Q”,nw, t: “Workout with Spurrier”}, Spurrier stands shirtless, shiny with sweat, holds his arms up and says, “touchdown Gamecocks!”
Spurrier, in his 26th season as a college football coach, has a 226-85-2 career record. He also won the national championship in 1996 at Florida.
