Steven Gerrard wants to coach, possibly at Liverpool

LIVERPOOL, England, Jan. 2 (UPI) — With the last song of a whistle, Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool playing career will likely come to an end this year.

But the Anfield legend may not have to leave the stadium.

Gerrard, who played for MLS’s Los Angeles Galaxy this summer, is still training with coach Jurgen Klopp in England.

“I’m not 100 percent sure but I think it will probably be my last year as a player,” Gerrard told the Daily Telegraph.

“I have had a chat with Klopp. I haven’t had an offer as such, but the club have let me know they are keen for me to come back but there hasn’t been a conversation where they have said: ‘We want you to do this, we want you to do that’.”

“They have welcomed me back in. I am always going to be biased towards Liverpool and the FA and basically when I am back home I am going to carry on with my punditry work and try and move around clubs and gain more experience, going to watch managers and learning more.

Gerrard, who made his Liverpool debut on May 29, 1998, will play for Liverpool in January on the club’s legends tour in Australia, before the Galaxy starts its preseason matches.

Gerrard scored 14 goals and had one assist in 41 games for Liverpool and England during the 2014-2015 season. Gerrard netted three goals and four assists in 17 games for the Galaxy last season. From since 1998, Gerrard has scored 186 goals
