LOS ANGELES, June 22 (UPI) — Steven Spielberg stated that he never plans on directing a Star Wars film.
“I’m never going to make a Star Wars film. That’s not my genre,” the filmmaker said according to the Toronto Sun Monday during a press event for his latest film The BFG, due in theaters July 1.
“It’s certainly my buddy’s — the Thomas Edison of science fiction, George Lucas, who created the entire series. But that was never for me. I’m just a fan; I’m just with everybody else in the audience watching them,” he continued.
Spielberg has always remained connected to the Star Wars universe throughout his career however, recently playing a hand in convincing J.J Abrams to direct The Force Awakens.
Spielberg also mentioned during the press event that his planned fifth entry in the Indiana Jones series will once again be executive produced by Lucas.
“George is going to be an executive producer on it with me,” he said according to Comic Book Resources. “Of course — I would never make an ‘Indiana Jones’ film without George Lucas. That would be insane.” The duo have previously collaborated on all previous entry’s in the series.
Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled to hit theaters July 19, 2019.
