CAYCE, S.C., Nov. 18 (UPI) — Stevie Wonder skipped a scheduled appearance at a South Carolina relief concert Sunday without warning.
The no-show is reportedly attributed to the lack of a written contract between the artist and the venue, and the fact that no money was to be exchanged, The State reports.
Wonder was expected to perform alongside ZZ Top singer Billy Gibbons on stage at the Rockin’ 4 Relief benefit concert to raise funds for recent flood victims. News that he would not show up was reportedly not confirmed until the night of the event, at which he was also to be given the key to the city.
“Due to circumstances beyond his control Stevie Wonder did not appear at the disaster relief concert,” the Rockin’ 4 Relief website read Wednesday. “All other artists performed. Plans are in the works to reschedule this concert for spring. Stevie Wonder voiced his sympathy for the victims.”
Other performers who made good on their agreement to make appearances were American Idol winner Candace Glover, Lyfe Jennings, Benton Blount, Kimberly Nichole, Malina Moye and a gospel choir, reports WLTX.
