Stocks edge higher, continuing momentum from last week

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are edging slightly higher in midday trading as the market builds on its biggest weekly gain of the year.

Some retailers were posting some solid gains Monday. Amazon and Home Depot each gained 2 percent.

Video game retailer GameStop sank 9 percent after reporting earnings and revenue that fell short of analysts’ forecasts.

Pfizer and Allergan fell 2 percent each after announcing a deal to combine to form the world’s biggest drug company.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged up 13 points, or 0.1 percent, to 17,837 as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index gained five points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,094. The Nasdaq composite climbed 14 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,118.
