Stocks waver in midday trading; media and energy stocks dip

NEW YORK (AP) — Stock indexes are little changed in quiet, post-holiday trading.

A slump in the price of oil pulled energy stocks lower Friday. Consol Energy sank 7 percent.

Disney fell 3 percent after reporting a decline in ESPN subscribers.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged down seven points, less than 0.1 percent, to 17,806 as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index was up a point at 2,090. The Nasdaq composite rose 11 points, or 0.2 percent, to 5,126.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.22 percent.

U.S. markets were closed Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday. They will close at 1 p.m. on Friday.
