Storm-averse snake rides out Hurricane Irma in Florida mailbox

Sept. 13 (UPI) — A clever black racer snake in Florida was caught on camera riding out the winds and rain of Hurricane Irma from the safety of a resident’s mailbox.

Cocoa Beach resident Susie Willard tweeted photos showing the nonvenomous snake hunkering down in the mailbox Monday.

Willard posted a follow-up tweet showing the mailbox withstanding high winds while the snake took shelter inside.

“That’s how loud the wind was hours after #Irma had done her worst. 94 mph in Cocoa Beach. Glad this little guy survived,” she wrote.
