LOS ANGELES, May 7 (UPI) — Melissa Benoist starrer Supergirl has been ordered to series at CBS.
The 26-year-old actress was announced as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, in January, and appeared in costume in a first promo photo for the pilot in March.
“I’m so happy I could fly!! @GBerlanti @SarahSoWitty @AliAdler @AJKreisberg @geoffjohns,” Benoist tweeted in celebration of the news Wednesday.
Arrow and The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti co-wrote the pilot with Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg, and will co-executive produce with Adler and Sarah Schechter. The fellow DC Comics-based series are in their third and first seasons, respectively, at The CW.
Supergirl will see Kara Zor-El embrace and begin to use her powers while living on Earth as Kara Danvers. Mehcad Brooks will co-star as Jimmy Olsen, with Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers.
