NEW YORK, Dec. 17 (UPI) — Teyana Taylor and fiancé Iman Shumpert welcomed their first child after a dramatic delivery Wednesday morning.
The 25-year-old singer revealed as much Thursday on Instagram, telling fans Shumpert helped her deliver daughter Iman Tayla Shumpert, Jr., aka Junie, after she went into labor in their bathroom.
“On Dec 16th at 6:42am in our bathroom Junie decided she wanted to take her first breath into this world,” Taylor wrote. “Not knowing I was in labor until I felt her head…it took two ten count pushes with my fiancé playing Dr and she entered this world into his bare hands!”
“Eyes full of tears and barely able to speak to the emergency operator @imanshumpert tied a pair of red headphones around the umbilical cord and the ambulance made their grand entrance 5 min later,” she continued. “She opened her eyes right away, gazed into mine and never cried!”
Sources told E! News the newborn is “absolutely beautiful” and “extremely healthy” despite her unconventional birth, revealing she was born at “35 weeks and 4 days, weighing 6lbs. 7 oz. and 19.5 inches.”
Taylor and Shumpert have been together since 2013, and announced the singer’s pregnancy in September. The couple got engaged at their baby shower in November, and expected Iman to be born Jan. 16, 2016.
Taylor is known for appearing on My Super Sweet 16, and released her debut studio album, VII, in November 2014. Shumpert was drafted by the New York Knicks in 2011, and presently plays shooting guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
