LOS ANGELES, Dec. 10 (UPI) — The Legend of Tarzan released an action-packed first trailer Wednesday.
True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard and The Wolf of Wall Street actress Margot Robbie portray Tarzan and Jane, respectively, with Inglorious Basterds baddie Christoph Waltz as the villain Captain Rom, a Belgian soldier.
The preview touches upon Tarzan’s childhood in the jungle, where he was raised by gorillas after his parents’ deaths. The movie will follow the character, now known as John Clayton III, Lord Greystroke, after he returns to the Congo as an emissary.
The Legend of Tarzan is based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs character Tarzan, and directed by David Yates, who helmed the final four Harry Potter films. The movie opens July 1, 2016, and co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounsou and John Hurt.
Skarsgard is best known for playing Eric Northman on True Blood, and recently starred in Diary of a Teenage Girl with Kristen Wiig. Robbie will next appear in The Big Short with Christian Bale, and will portray Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad.
