LOS ANGELES, Oct. 30 (UPI) — The Muppets received a full series order this week at ABC.
The network ordered an additional three episodes of the comedy after the show’s debut season continued to earn strong ratings. Season 1 will now run for 16 episodes.
The Muppets premiered Sept. 22, and is the highest-rated new Tuesday series among adults 18-49. The comedy is also ABC’s strongest-performing half-hour Tuesday show in four years.
“At times like these we like to quote Kermit the Frog: ‘YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!’” the series wrote in response to the news Thursday on Facebook.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter the comedy wasn’t picked up for a traditional 22-episode season to accommodate the forthcoming shows The Real O’Neals and Uncle Book.
The Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady co-created The Muppets with 3rd Rock from the Sun producer Bob Kushell. The documentary-style series follows the Jim Hensen characters in their personal and professional lives.
