The Muppets take on ‘more adult’ themes in upcoming mockumentary-style show

NEW YORK, April 22 (UPI) — The Muppets are joining the ranks of those in “mockumentaries” like 30 Rock and The Office in a new ABC series that will dig deeper into the puppets’ personal lives. The network promises a “more adult show,” Entertainment Weekly reports.

The project, from Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady and Anger Management writer-producer Bob Kushell, was announced earlier this month. The series’ pilot presentation is said to follow the felt-laden celebs as they prepare to be on a new ‘reality’ show. EW reports that ABC is considering a straight-to-series timeline.

The new show’s producers are reportedly creating a storyline that explores the Muppets’ backgrounds, friendships, romances, jobs and other areas of their ‘everyday’ lives.

But do Muppets even have personal lives? ABC and Muppet fans would say yes, citing Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy’s roller-coaster relationship, but more is to be covered in the show. Apparently, a lot happens among friends when out from under the puppeteer.
