LAS VEGAS, Oct. 23 (UPI) — Canadian singer The Weeknd, or Abel Tesfaye, has pleaded no contest to charges alleging he struck a police officer in January.
According to reports, Tesfaye submitted his plea in a Las Vegas court Wednesday and was ordered to complete 50 hours of community service, anger management courses and an alcohol evaluation. The “Can’t Feel My Face” singer was also ordered to pay $1,000 to a fund for injured officers. He will complete his service with a non-profit in Canada.
Tesfaye, 25, was arrested in January for allegedly punching a Vegas officer during a fight at the Cromwell Hotel. He was charged with a count of misdemeanor battery of an officer at the time.
If the Canadian R&B singer, who saw one of his most successful years in music in 2015, continues to respect the law and complete what is required of him by the Vegas court, his case will be dropped.
