These celebrity exes lived together after their breakups

WASHINGTON, July 2 (UPI) — Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner intend to continue to live together for some time despite their recently announced divorce.

According to reports by People and Us Weekly, the couple intends to remain amicable for the sake of their three children, Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3. So amicable in fact, that Affleck will reportedly remain on the couple’s Brentwood property, although in a different house, while he co-parents his children with Garner. Us reported that the couple isn’t looking for a high-profile legal battle and intend to share joint custody.

The Affleck-Garner estate is pleasantly located in the Pacific Palisades of Los Angeles and has access to canyon, city and ocean views, Yahoo observes. The 3-acre property has a guest house apart from the main, as well as a joint gym/office/art studio. Although the separated couple will be living on the same property, they won’t necessarily be seeing much of each other.

This couple’s seemingly odd situation isn’t so unique among other celebrities in recent years. Quite a few estranged lovers and spouses have shared the same roof for some time after officially going their separate ways. Here are four other celeb couples who stripped their relationships down to “roommate” status for the sake of their children.

1. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin

The actress and musician duo announced their “conscious uncoupling” in 2014, but made a point to keep it cordial for both their public images and their two children. Yahoo observes that the couple continued living together on their L.A. property before Martin purchased a place across the street. Their children, Moses and Apple, were always close to both parents, making holidays and family outings that much simpler.

2. Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman

The Will & Grace star and her longtime partner connected while they were still in college and married in 2000. After about ten years, they went their separate ways in spirit, but remained roomies for their son, Roman. Eventually, the two found new homes, but in 2013, Messing shared with More magazine that their situation was still positive. “Now we are co-parenting beautifully,” she said in an interview. “We had Thanksgiving together. In my mind, we will be a nuclear family forever.”

3. Ne-Yo and Monyetta Shaw

The R&B heartthrob and his ex-fiance reportedly split in 2014, but for some time afterward they shared a place. Although Ne-Yo had moved on with model Crystal Renay, he felt it was important to live with Shaw to support their two children together. “The romantic element of our relationship is over but that is my partner, we’re raising a kid together,” the singer and rapper said on a radio interview in Sept.. But after some time, he bought a new place and moved away.

“It was a matter of wanting my kids to grow up in one place, but I feel like my kids are going to be very mature and very smart,” he said on the Ricky Smiley Morning Show the same month. “They’re going to understand: This is daddy’s house, this is mommy’s house. If we don’t make it a negative thing, then they won’t.”

4. Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy

On a more tumultuous note, the reality star and her ex-husband both refused to leave their NYC condo when they split last year. Frankel described the experience of living with Hoppy as “brutal,” “horrendous,” and “excruciating,” claiming that he would not leave her alone with their daughter, Bryn. Even after getting a temporary apartment, Frankel said the stress didn’t stop. When they had to exchange their daughter for visitation, she said Hoppy would “make faces at me and say, ‘I’m sorry you have to go with Mommy,’” she told People. “I don’t think it’s good for Bryn to be around that kind of stress and anxiety,” she said.
