Three shot, including officer, in Louisiana; eight taken hostage

SUNSET, La., Aug. 26 (UPI) — Three people, including a police officer, were shot and several others were taken hostage Wednesday in the town of Sunset, La., law enforcement said.

Tonette Thibodeaux, of the Sunset Police Department, told the Advocate in Baton Rouge, La., one officer from the department was shot.

Louisiana State Police spokesman Sgt. James Anderson said the officer was transported by air to the hospital for treatment. He also confirmed two other victims were shot.

The condition of the three victims was not immediately clear.

Meanwhile, the suspect, whose identity hasn’t been released, has reportedly taken eight people hostage inside a mini-mart and is involved in a standoff with police.

Sources told KPLC in Lake Charles, La., there are multiple ambulances and helicopters in the area because there may be “multiple scenes.”

This is a developing story.
