Top Iraq commander announces ‘liberation’ of east Mosul

Bartalla (Iraq) (AFP) – Iraqi forces have retaken the entire eastern side of Mosul from the Islamic State group, the head of the Counter-Terrorism Service announced on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference in Bartalla, a town east of Mosul, Staff General Talib al-Sheghati announced “the liberation… of the left bank” of the Tigris River that divides the city.
