OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss., Dec. 9 (UPI) — Authorities in Mississippi said an 18-wheeler loaded with fire extinguishers ironically burst into flames on a stretch of interstate and caused major delays.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the truck’s cab separated from the trailer when it went off the road Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 10 in Jackson County.
“The truck went off the road to the left and it hit the guard rail,” Seibert told the Sun Herald newspaper.
The trailer flipped onto the median and part of the vehicle ended up on Old Fort Bayou Road.
The driver, Arthur Roger Apple, 73, was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation Wednesday by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
It was unclear whether any of the fire extinguishers survived the flames.
