Two Syrians arrested in Geneva on suspicion of terror links

GENEVA, Switzerland, Dec. 12 (UPI) — Two Syrians were arrested in Geneva on suspicion of manufacturing, concealing and transporting explosives and “toxic gases.”

The suspects are accused of violating a law prohibiting groups such as the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, ISIL and Daesh, and al-Qaida. It is not clear if the suspects are Syrian nationals or of Syrian descent.

Swiss Attorney General Olivier Jornot said traces of explosives were found in a vehicle used by the suspects.

“The top priority and common goal is the prevention of terror activities,” the attorney general’s office said

Geneva police raised the terror threat level on Thursday as they continued to search for suspects in the deadly Paris attacks that left at least 130 dead on Nov. 13. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks
